Outbreaks of rain and a few thundery downpours

Changeable and rather unsettled. That's the latest weather outlook from Met Éireann.

A generally cloudy and wet start today, Tuesday, with outbreaks of rain and a few thundery downpours possible. Drier and brighter weather will extend eastwards to many areas during the day but there'll be a few showers mixed in. Parts of the southwest may stay cloudy and showery for much of the day. Maximum temperatures of 16 to 20 degrees in moderate to fresh westerly breezes.

Many parts of the country will be dry tonight with clear spells but areas of mist and fog will develop, especially across Connacht and west Ulster. Outbreaks of rain will spread across southwestern counties towards morning. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees in light southwest or variable winds.

On Wednesday morning, outbreaks of rain will spread across southern and southwestern areas. It will stay largely dry elsewhere with sunny spells but cloud will increase during the afternoon and evening and patchy rain will spread from the southwest later in the day. Maximum temperatures of 17 to 22 degrees in moderate southeast winds.

Mostly cloudy on Wednesday night with a few patches of rain or drizzle in places at first but overall lots of dry weather. However, more persistent rain will arrive into the southwest and west soon after midnight before pushing northeastwards over the country. A mild and humid night with lowest temperatures generally not falling below 13 to 16 degrees in light to moderate southeast winds.

Cloudy and damp on Thursday with outbreaks of rain and drizzle. Drier and brighter weather will spread slowly across western areas during the afternoon but staying damp further east until evening time. Highest temperatures of 18 to 23 degrees in moderate to fresh southwest winds.

Patchy rain looks set to clear from the east coast on Thursday evening to leave a mostly dry night with just a few showers in the west and northwest. Lowest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees with moderate southwest winds.

It looks set to be a bright day on Friday with sunny spells and scattered showers. Towards evening, it will turn overcast in the southwest and outbreaks of rain will spread from the Atlantic to affect west Munster. Highest temperatures of 18 to 21 degrees in moderate southwest winds. There'll be scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle across the country on Friday night. Lowest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees in light southeast or variable breezes.

A mixed day on Saturday with widespread showers but there'll be spells of sunshine also. Maximum temperatures of 17 to 21 degrees with mostly light southerly breezes.

Early indications suggest that Sunday will be a bright day with sunny spells and just well-scattered showers. Maximum temperatures of 18 to 22 degrees in moderate northerly breezes.
