IFI return with more accessible angling plan

Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) has returned to Cavan County Council with a fresh planning application to develop disabled angling facilities at Dargan Lake near Virginia.

The submission comes after a previous application hit an unexpected snag and planners deemed the application invalid due to mapping issues.

IFI had applied for permission to construct an accessible angling stand, a wheelchair-accessible toilet facility, and dedicated car parking spaces, including bays for disabled users and a bus.

The proposed development was intended to be both functional and environmentally sensitive.

The site at Dargan Lake, accessible via the L3007 roadway, is to feature a timber post-and-rail boundary fence, an eco-friendly Healthmatic ‘Kazubaloo KL2’ toilet requiring no connection to mains electricity or sewerage, and stormwater management features including a soak pit.

A two-metre-wide path is also planned to provide access from the car park to the newly built angling stand, which will be designed using standard IFI specifications.

The proposed works are to be carried out with “minimal disruption” to the surrounding environment, according to Langan Consultant Engineers, which filed a submission on behalf of IFI in relation to the proposed project.

The angling stand installation will require detailed bathymetric and geotechnical surveys to determine the appropriate foundations and construction methods, says Langan.
