Fire Crews tackle overnight blaze

Units from Ballyjamesduff and Cavan Town responded.

Local fire crews battled a significant blaze at a former landmark premises on the N3 between Cavan Town and Virginia earlier this morning.

Units from Ballyjamesduff and Cavan Town responded to the fire at the former Bent Elbow commercial property at Upper Lavey (Sunday, September 7).

The alarm was raised following reports of a vehicle fire, which quickly spread to the adjacent building, prompting the coordinated emergency response.

Upon arrival, firefighters from the two towns encountered a well-developed fire requiring crews wearing breathing apparatus to have to enter the building to bring the fire under control from within to contain and prevent any further spread.

As the fire extended into the roof space, the Cavan Town unit deployed an aerial hydraulic platform to access and extinguish flames in the upper sections of the structure.

The fire caused minor traffic disruption as emergency services remained at the scene.

No injuries have been reported, and an investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
