Cavan and Monaghan Men's Sheds receive grant funding
Men's Sheds in Cavan and Monaghan received grants of up to €3000 towards their running costs
A NUMBER of men’s sheds in Cavan and Monaghan are to receive grants of up to €3,000 the Department of Rural and Community Development announced today.
The funding is to assist 369 Men’s Sheds across the country with their running/operational costs such as heating, electricity, and insurance bills.
Ten men’s sheds in Co Cavan and four in Monaghan have received grants.
They include Ballyjameduff, Virginia, Stradone, Belturbet and District Men’s Shed, Cootehill, Kingscourt, Mullagh, Swanlibar, Kilnaleck and Bailieborough Rehab Centre in Cavan.
The largest grant payment in Co Cavan amounted to €3,000 and the lowest just over €800.
In Monaghan, Ballybay Men’s Shed was granted €2,708.70, Carrickmacross received €1,428.20, Clones was awarded €1,995.92, and Monaghan Men’s Shed received €2,161.38 in funding.
The funding jointly announced by Minister of Rural and Community Development Dara Calleary and Minister of State Jerry Buttimer TD allowed the Irish Men’s Sheds Association (IMSA) to distribute supports to their members, with grants of up to €3,000 available.
All applications were received and assessed by the Irish Men’s Sheds Association of Ireland.
Welcoming the funding for the local groups, Deputy Brendan Smith (FF) said: “Men's Sheds offer an opportunity for men to meet and socialise and oftentimes learn or practice a craft or trade.
“I have seen on many occasions these projects supporting other community activities by making, for instance, garden furniture and growing vegetables, flowers and plants. It is heartening to see so many skills and crafts being practiced in these centres " he said.
