Fixtures confirmed for Round 3 of IFC and JFC

After a brilliant weekend of football action - including a number of last gasp wins - the thrills look set to continue after Monday’s draw for Round 3 of both the Intermediate and Junior Championships.

The unbeaten quartet of Butlersbridge, Knockbride, Cornafean and Drumlane have set the pace with two wins apiece, in the O’Reilly Precast sponsored event and only score differences separating them.

When the championship action resumes in the coming weeks, a point from their two remaining group matches would guarantee their progress into the knock-out phase.

The tie of the round is arguably between second place Knockbride - who have been scintillating in front of goals, netting six times in two games - and many people’s pre-competition favourites Denn. The Crosskeys based team, will be eager to make amends after suffering a five point defeat in an entertaining match with Cornafean last Friday.

Monday’s draw has also paired leaders Butlersbridge - who swept aside Drumgoon on Saturday - and eighth placed Ballymachugh. The ‘Hughs will enter the match buoyed by their spirited win over Lavey in Round 2.

Cornafean, who are enjoying a remarkable year in which they remain unbeaten, will put that record to the test against next door neighbours Ballinagh, who lost by three points to high flying Drumlane last weekend.

The last of the frontrunners, Drumlane are set to face Shercock, who resurrected their championship aspirations with a late surge against Cootehill.

There’s plenty at stake in the other Intermediate ties as Cootehill take on Killinkere; Bailieborough face Drumgoon; and Munterconnaught meet Lavey.

With two of four rounds in the group stage complete, time is running out for the teams still without a win, namely Drumgoon, Bailieborough, Cootehill and Killinkere.

After the four rounds are complete, the top eight teams will then progress to the quarter finals.

JFC

The draw has also been made for Round 3 of the Rudden’s Service Station Junior Football Championship.

Two teams remain unbeaten in the competition, Belturbet and Lacken.

The Rories currently are perched on top of the table on points difference, but face a tricky prospect against sixth place Templeport in the next round.

Things aren’t straightforward for Lacken either, they’ve been drawn against fifth place Killeshandra.

Elsewhere, bottom placed side Maghera MacFinns have been given a BYE in this round, while third place Mountnugent take on Shannon Gaels.

Kildallan have been drawn against Kill, Drumalee take on Swanlinbar, and finally Redhills will face Drung.
