Tragic drowning of teenager in Ballinamore

Family, friends and members of the wider community will gather later today (Wednesday), August 19 for the funeral of 19-year-old Alan Creamer, who died suddenly and tragically at the weekend.

Mr Creamer, of Rooskeynamona, Mohill, Co Leitrim, died on Sunday, August 16, following his drowning at Ballinamore Family Festival.

His death is being treated as a tragic accident and is the second drowning in the region in almost a week.

In a tribute published following his death, Mr Creamer’s heartbroken family said: “Alan left us far too soon. His bright smile and kind heart will stay with us forever.”

Mr Creamer is was predeceased by his grandparents Mary and Berney McKiernan, and is survived by parents Carmel and John, and sister Chloe, grandparents Mary and Liam Creamer, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, neighbours, and many friends.

Tributes posted online in the wake of Mr Creamer’s death remembered him for his bright personality and kind heart, as well as his love of cars, tractors and machinery.

The Ballinamore Family Festival organisers expressed their deep sadness following the tragedy and, as a mark of respect, fireworks planned for the festival’s closing night were cancelled.

Mr Creamer’s removal took place on Tuesday evening to St Patrick’s Church, Mohill, with his Funeral Mass taking place at 11am, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
