Monaghan bus station plans

Bus Éireann has provided further information on its plans for a major revamp and extension at their North Road station in Monaghan Town.

If approved by Monaghan County Council, the public transport provider will construct a new single-storey extension to the bus station, add four new bus bays and also construct a new canopy to the rear of the building “to provide additional covered waiting areas” for customers.

According to their planning application, the total renovation is intended “to improve accessibility and functionality” for station users. Monaghan county planners had sought further information on the plans, originally lodged last October, which has now been submitted.

The material requested included an asbestos risk assessment and survey report.

Bus Éireann also want permission to reconfigure the car parking layout at the station to create designated pedestrian walkways and a new drop-off area.

The proposed new canopy covering the customer waiting area at the station will also include around 118 Sq M of solar voltaic (SV) panels.
