We all scream for ice cream!

MEET THE FINALISTS: BEST AGRI-FOOD BUSINESS

Ice Cream Treats, the Killeshandra-based business founded by managing director Gerry Sheridan, started humble. From small beginnings with just two people, the company has grown to more than 20 employees creating luxury ice cream, frozen desserts, toppings for the domestic and export markets.

Gerry established Ice Cream Treats in 2014 with the aim of bringing “innovation, quality and excellent service to the ice cream market”.

The business began with an idea to provide ice cream for convenience retailers. This developed into a new brand - Moo’d - launched in partnership with Musgrave Retail Partners across Ireland, which Gerry said now represents €15M in retail sales value.

Ice Cream Treats has expanded its customer base across Ireland and the UK, supplying major retailers including Tesco, Aldi and Lidl, as well as food service groups. Gerry is particularly proud to have completed a product trial with McDonald’s UK and becoming “the first new supplier to be on-boarded in seven years”.

Gerry is so proud of what he and his employees have achieved: “Every member of our team plays an important part in what we do.”

“The hard work, commitment and willingness to take on new challenges have been a huge part of our growth.”

Being a “Cavan business with big ambitions”, Gerry is excited for the future: Ice Cream Treats has recently launched a premium ice cream range in the UK and is preparing for a new launch with Marks & Spencer using milk from Farnadolly Cornafean and jam from Moran’s in Killygarry.

The company is also preparing to introduce a new ice cream vending machine concept.

Beyond commercial growth, Gerry said supporting local communities, charities and businesses remains important. Being named as a finalist in the Cavan Business Award is “a huge honour”, he said.

“For me, it recognises the vision and hard work that has gone into building Ice Cream Treats, but more importantly, it recognises our people.”
