The fine weather will continue for the rest of the week and the weekend, with plenty of sunshine and temperatures into the high teens or low twenties. So says the national weather forecaster.

Today will be a warm and sunny day for most. Heavy showers will develop in Munster and possibly south Connacht during the afternoon and evening and thunderstorms are possible. Highest temperatures of 19 to 25 degrees, warmest in the west, but a little cooler along the east coast due to a light to moderate easterly wind.

Showers will die out early tonight leaving clear skies. A few mist and fog patches will form in a light and variable breeze. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 11 degrees.

Tomorrow will be warm and sunny. A few heavy showers may develop in the southwest towards evening. Highest temperatures of 20 to 25 degrees, warmest in the west, but a little cooler along the east coast due to a light to moderate easterly wind.

Dry with clear skies tomorrow night. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees with light to moderate east to northeast or variable winds.

Another warm and sunny day on Friday. There is a chance of a few showers developing in the southwest. Highest temperatures of 18 to 22 degrees generally but cooler towards the east coast due to a light easterly breeze.

Dry with clear skies again on Friday night. Lowest temperatures of 6 to 11 degrees with a light northeasterly or variable wind.

The weekend: Staying sunny and warm for the weekend. Highest temperatures generally of 17 to 22 or 23 degrees, with coolest conditions again in eastern coastal counties due to easterly breezes.

Early next week: Current guidance suggests that it will stay settled and warm for the early days of next week with temperatures in the high teens or low twenties.
