Cavan Women's Shed finds touch
The members of the Women’s Shed in Cavan Town have found a new home, temporarily at least, at Cavan Rugby Club.
Meeting weekly on Thursday mornings (10:30am to 12:30pm), the group continues to offer talks, workshops, exercise classes, and creative activities in a welcoming environment for women of all ages.
However, the shed's 200-strong membership found themselves briefly without a home after their lease on the clubrooms at nearby Cavan Gaels' Terry Coyle Park came to an end.
Their predicament reignited calls within the community regarding the need for a purpose-built, neutral, and inclusive community centre in Cavan Town.
The Women’s Shed committee voiced frustration over the lack of accessible community meeting spaces in the county town, highlighting how Cavan Town has no community hall unlike other rural towns.
The group emphasised the need for such a facility to build stronger community bonds, especially as the county town grows larger and the population becomes more diverse. Crediting local sports clubs, particularly the GAA, for their role in helping enhance community life, the local shed stressed that not everyone connects through sport.
