Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal hit-and-run collision, which claimed the life of a cyclist aged in his 80s

The shocking incident occurred at Batterstown, Ballivor this morning, Friday 12th September 2025.

Shortly after 9.59am, Gardaí and emergency services responded to fatal hit-and-run collision on the R156. The collision involved a cyclist and a vehicle that failed to remain at the scene.

The male cyclist, aged in his 80’s, was discovered unresponsive, and removed to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown where he was subsequently pronounced deceased.

The road is currently closed for technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area of Batterstown, Ballivor, Co. Meath, between 9.30am and 10.00am on Friday 12th September 2025, are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.

Gardaí are particularly interested in the movements of heavy goods vehicles (rigid or articulated trucks) in the area at the time.
