Belturbet to host free film and workshop to benefit habitats

Take a positive step to help Ireland address its biodiversity and climate crises by headling along to a special free event in Belturbet next weekend.

A special screening of the acclaimed Irish documentary ‘Habitat’ will be shown on Sunday afternoon, November 23 followed by a tree planting workshop with multi-award winning horticulturalist Barry Kavanagh. The event is jointly hosted in Belturbet Civic Centre by Killykeen Conservation Group and Cavan Community Cinema.

Habitat is an inspiring documentary by Irish filmmaker Patrick Brendan O’Neill, which celebrates our local biodiversity through stunning cinematography and compelling discussion.

It calls out modern commercial forestry plantations in Ireland, arguing their practices are detrimental to Ireland’s biodiversity and carbon targets.

Featuring fascinating interviews with artists, farmers, and foresters alike, it explores positive and beneficial ways to tackle Ireland’s biodiversity crisis. It’s regarded as a must watch for nature lovers everywhere!

The screening will be followed by a tree planting workshop run by multiple Bloom gold medallist Barry Kavanagh. This is a wonderful opportunity to level up your gardening and tree planting skills in a relaxed setting over a cup of tea. There will be free specially selected local provenance tree seeds available on the day to take home.

Killykeen Conservation Group Secretary Reuben Jayawardene has been heartened by the level of interest this event is generating.
