Plenty of rain in the forecast for coming days

Weather update from Met Éireann

Unsettled for the rest of the week with frequent spells of rain. That's the latest weather outlook from Met Éireann.

This morning, rain and blustery conditions in the south and west will gradually move northeastwards across the country. A brief clearance to sunny spells and isolated showers will follow behind the rain before further outbreaks of rain push into the southwest later. Fresh to strong southeasterly winds will decrease moderate to fresh behind the rain. Highest temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees.

Generally cloudy at first tonight with outbreaks of rain spreading from the southwest. The rain will become lighter and patchier as the night goes on with clear spells developing. More persistent rain will develop in the southwest towards morning. Lowest temperatures of 2 to 6 degrees in moderate to fresh south to southeast winds.

Tomorrow morning, rain in the southwest will spread across Munster, south Leinster and south Connacht but it will be a dry start further north with sunny spells. Outbreaks of rain will extend nationwide through the afternoon. Turning breezy with the rain with moderate to fresh east to southeast winds, occasionally increasing strong. Highest temperatures of 6 to 10 degrees.

A cloudy and damp night overnight on Wednesday with widespread outbreaks of rain, some isolated heavy downpours possible. Lowest temperatures of 2 to 7 degrees. Coldest in the west and southwest in light to moderate southeasterly or variable winds.

Thursday is expected another generally cloudy day with scattered outbreaks of rain. Some sunny spells are possible in the southwest. Highest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees in light to moderate southeast or variable winds, fresher in the northeast.

Most areas will remain cloudy with continued rain and drizzle on Thursday night. However, some dry and clear spells are possible in the south and midlands. Lowest temperatures generally of 2 to 6 degrees, but falling to between -1 and +1 degrees under any clear spells, in moderate to fresh easterly winds.

Friday is forecast to be dull, damp and quite breezy with further rain and drizzle spreading from the south. Highest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees in moderate to fresh easterly winds.

Current indications suggest that Saturday will be blustery with scattered patches of rain. More persistent rain is possible in the south. Highest temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees in fresh to strong easterly winds.

Further outlook: While the details are uncertain, low pressure will remain in charge of our weather with further spells of rain likely. Potentially turning cooler early next week.
