Nurse killed in hit and run has local links

Áine O'Reilly's funeral will take place tomorrow.

The young nurse, killed in a hit and run on her way to work in Limerick last weekend, has Cavan links.

Áine O’Reilly, aged in her 30s, and whose father Eugene is a retired garda and a native of Cavan, died following the crash, which happened late last Friday night, February 13, on the N24 near Grange West, Boher.

Gardaí are looking to identify the driver of a third car involved in the three-car collision and say they are following a “definite” line of inquiry.

Ms O'Reilly, the sole occupant of one of the two others cars, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Her funeral service will take place at St John the Baptist Church Nicker tomorrow (Wednesday), with burial afterwards in St Columba’s cemetery near her home at Pallasgreen.

Ms O'Reilly is survived by her heartbroken parents Eugene and Ann, brothers Eoin, James and Conor, sister-in-law Aisling, nephew Dáire, aunts, uncles, relatives and a wide circle of friends.

Ms O'Reilly's father joined the force in 1976, serving in Mayo, Limerick, Bruff, Henry Street and Cappamore before moving to Pallasgreen in 1983. He retied in 2009.
