SF back protests and aim to bring vote against government
A local TD has given his backing to the fuel protestors and blasted the government for not acting "with dignity".
Deputy Matt Carthy said his party would bring a motion of no-confidence against the government when the Dáil resumes this week.
The Monaghan TD was joined by Deputy Pearse Doherty and Senator Pauline Tully at the Dublin Road blockade yesterday.
Deputy Matt Carthy voiced his support for the protest in a social media post:
"Protestors have acted with dignity throughout the past number of days. The government have not - they have escalated tensions and shown no understanding of the frustrations of workers, families, businesses & farmers who are at the brunt of the cost-of-living crisis.
"Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and the independents backing them must be held to account. Sinn Féin will be moving a no-confidence motion in the government this week!"
His Donegal colleague Deputy Doherty echoed those sentiments posting following: "Down in Cavan with hard working people who are more determined than ever to have their voices heard and to see government take action to cut fuel taxes and deliver real support for workers, families and local businesses.
"Sinn Féin will keep standing with you. We will fight your corner until ordinary Irish people are put first."
Meanwhile the protests have resumed for a third day in Cavan causing huge traffic disruption, while prices on the forecourts remain high.
