Tell us about your business and team:

Brewhouse is a 100% independent and family-owned Craft Brewery based on the family’s dairy farm near Carrickmacross where it produces a wide range of beers which are recognised domestically and internationally, across Europe and in the USA. The team of four employees are capable of producing 42,000 litres of beer per month. In terms of tourism, Brehon Brewhouse provides weekly tours of the brewery and hosts several events across the calendar year, from Pop-Up Gaeltachts to Live Music gigs. Inspired by the old Brehon Laws, our brewery takes its ethos from the law that every clan was to always have fresh food and ale available to welcome visitors.

Describe the best thing about your service:

On the tours, the staff at Brehon Brewhouse offer an in depth look into the brewing process, but their best attribute is story telling. “Our tagline is ‘Irish Beer, Crafted in Stories’ and we love to both tell and hear stories to and from our visitors,” says owner Seamus McMahon. “Our stories are authentic, our beer is authentic and with the help of the layers of history this 10th generation farm has to offer, we provide both a historical and modern insight into farm life.”

The taproom, which is located in the old farm cottage adds to the authentic nature of our tours with events scheduled to promote local business, artists, producers and the local area greatly.

Don’t be afraid to take risks.

What does the future hold for your business?

In the near future, Brehon Brewhouse aims to have its beers available across the whole island of Ireland as well as expanding on its current export market. In terms of tourism, it wants to help make Monaghan a truly unique destination. Last year it hosted Monaghan’s first ever Beer and Music Festival and it wants to grow the event further.
