Monaghan team named for Ulster final

Breaking

The Monaghan panel for Sunday’s Ulster SFC Final against Armagh has been named. Speaking to Northern Sound’s Fergal Monaghan via weblink at a fundraising event this morning, manager Gabriel Bannigan said that Louis Kelly, who had started the previous two championship games, had been ruled out for Sunday, having picked up an Achilles injury.

He also said that the game had arrived too soon for Fionán Carolan, who “picked up a setback” and also misses out on a potential championship debut. There was some positive news with returns to the 26-man panel for Gary Mohan and Ryan Wylie, who both missed the wins over Cavan and Derry, while Ryan McAnespie also makes the bench after his cameo role during extra-time in the semi-final.

Max Maguire is also included on the 26 after being called into the senior panel following Monaghan’s loss to Tyrone in the Ulster U20 final, where the Scotstown forward kicked 0-6.

The only change from last time out to the starting team named to play Armagh sees Daragh McElearney replace Kelly. Monaghan captain Mícheál Bannigan is set to make his 100th senior inter-county appearance as they take on an Armagh side contesting their fourth consecutive Ulster final.

Monaghan: Rory Beggan; Daragh McElearney, Ryan O’Toole, Dylan Byrne; Cameron Dowd, Killian Lavelle, Dessie Ward; Mícheál McCarville, Karl Gallagher; Aaron Carey, Mícheál Bannigan (Capt.), Stephen O’Hanlon; Conor McCarthy, Andrew Woods, Stephen Mooney.

Subs: Kian Mulligan, David Garland, Robbie Hanratty, Bobby McCaul, Gary Mohan, Max Maguire, Ryan McAnespie, Shane Hanratty, Oisín McGorman, Jack McCarron, Ryan Wylie.
