Congolese set for "beautiful" celebrations

Established in 2024, the United Congolese Association's second independence day celebration this weekend is expected to be a "beautiful event" with traditional Congolese food, dress, music and dance.

Like last year's event held at Cavan Rugby Club, Irish UN veterans have been invited to attend, some of which served during peacekeeping missions in the Congo. "They told us things that we didn't have a clue about," recalls UCA Chairperson Sido Manzambi, detailing how they exchanged memories on the day.

There will also be a fundraising football tournament between the hosts UCA Leopards, FC Simba and Letterkenny Social Footballerz. The event will take place on Sunday, May 31, at 3pm at the Cavan Rugby Club grounds. All welcome.
