Mercury set to rise as temperatures soar

Weather update from Met Éireann

A lot of dry weather with temperatures continuing to increase, becoming hot for Thursday, with top temperatures of 30 degrees forecast. Expect very mild nights this week with more unsettled conditions developing for Friday and the weekend. That's the latest weather outlook from Met Éireann.

Warm or very warm today. A mix of cloud and sunny spells this morning, cloudiest for Connacht and Ulster with some rain and drizzle. Good spells of sunshine will become more widespread from the south through the afternoon. While it will stay dry for most, a few sharp thundery showers are possible, mainly in the south and east. Highest temperatures of 22 to 27 degrees generally, a little cooler in parts of Ulster and near coasts with light easterly or variable breezes, occasionally moderate near coasts.

Mild, dry and largely clear tonight with fog patches developing in light variable breezes. Temperatures will not fall below 12 to 17 degrees.

Dry for most tomorrow with long spells of sunshine. A little cloudier at times in the west and north with the chance of isolated light showers. Highest temperatures of 22 to 28 or 29 degrees generally, warmest in the south and east, ranging 19 to 21 degrees near Atlantic coasts, in light, occasionally moderate westerly or variable breezes.

Dry and mostly clear at first overnight on Tuesday before cloud builds from the west with a few spots of light rain or drizzle possible in the northwest. Some southern and eastern areas will stay clear. Temperatures will not fall below 13 to 18 degrees in light northerly or variable breezes with some fog patches developing.

Rather cloudy on Wednesday morning away from the south and east with a few spots of light rain or drizzle. The cloud will break up through the day with spells of sunshine developing with a few showers too, mainly for the northwest and west. Highest temperatures of 22 to 29 degrees, highest generally for the southern half of the country, in light easterly or variable breezes.

A mix of cloud and clear spells overnight on Wednesday. Dry for most but a few showers are possible, mainly for the northwest. Temperatures will not fall below 13 degrees in the north and 18 or 19 degrees in the southwest, in light, occasionally moderate easterly breezes.

Thursday is forecast to be a hot day. Mostly dry and sunny to start but a few showers may break out through the day, potentially heavy and thundery, especially in the northwest in the evening. Highest temperatures of 25 to 31 degrees generally in light to moderate southeasterly winds. Turning cloudier from the south overnight with patchy rain and drizzle. Temperatures will not fall below 15 to 19 degrees.

Friday will bring a mix of cloud and sunshine with showery rain, heaviest and most persistent for the western half of the country. Highest temperatures of 19 to 25 degrees, warmest in the east, in mostly moderate southerly winds.

Further Outlook: Rather unsettled with spells of rain and showers. Cooler too with temperatures reaching the high teens or low twenties but falling to low double digits during the nights.
