GE2016 Profile: Aoife O Connell (DDI)
Occupation: Business owner - holistic and alternative health
Marital Status: In a relationship, no children
Priorities:
To restore the much-needed Accident and Emergency Department in Monaghan Hospital and ensure proper services for mental health and wellbeing. We need to stop people being evicted from their homes and abolish water charges and house-hold charges. I will work to prevent more cuts to the most vulnerable in our community and to preserve the health and dignity of our senior citizens who should not have to fight for their medical cards or extra home help - this should be an automatic given. Proper funding to community services for women and children with special needs is vital. If elected I will work my hardest to bring job creation to keep our youth in the country and bring back accountability to the political system.
• End fluoridation in public water
• Oppose further punishment of the most vulnerable with austerity, in particular the old, sick and disabled
• Extra funding for social housing, have the mortgage supplement reinstated, rent increase for rent supplement recipients
• Greater interchange and regular liaison between community representatives and the Gardaí
• Work to attract potential investors to Monaghan Cavan to assist businesses and the farming community
