"It isn't about the money; we're just sick of it!"

"It isn't about the money; we're just sick of it!" So said one Cavan GP this week in the row between doctors in the North East and the Health Services Executive over alleged delays in issuing medical cards. Up to half of the GPs across County Cavan have withdrawn their services from primary care teams, accusing the HSE of deliberately delaying medical cards to save money. Cavan town-based doctor Dr Hume from the Drumalee Family Practice told The Anglo-Celt yesterday (Tuesday): "Our resignation has no impact on patient care. We continue to see our patients as normal. We are standing up for the hundreds of vulnerable patients who have had their cards taken off them in an apparantly cynical cost cutting exercise," she said.
