Promising young rider fatally injured
A promising young show jumper has died tragically while attending a major international show jumping event in Cavan town at the weekend. The body of 20-year-old Benny Kuehnle, a native of Laois, was found on Friday morning at Cavan Equestrian Centre, Latt, on the outskirts of Cavan town. He was competing in the International Horse Show and many tributes were paid to the international show jumper. The show jumping world was shocked to hear of his untimely death. Benny was considered to be one of the up-and-coming show jumpers in the country and was described as one of the most promising of his generations. Benny was a member of Ireland"s young rider team, which recently competed at the European Championships in Prague, where he led the team to sixth place. In the same competition, he finished eleventh in the individual competition out of 65 riders. He was also know as a senior rider and had made his mark at international and national circuits. Ireland"s Young Rider Chef d"Equipe Comdt John Ledingham, said: 'words cannot express the shock all of us in the sport are felling at this news. He was one of the most gifted young riders in Europe.' His funeral took place in Camross, Laois, on Tuesday.
