Four young men injured

Gardaí in Cavan are appealing to motorists to take care on the roads over the Bank Holiday weekend following a bad traffic accident in Redhills last weekend, which has left one young man in a critical condition. Four young men from the local area were injured in the crash in the early hours of Sunday morning when the car in which they were travelling hit a ditch. All four were removed to Cavan General Hospital with one later transferred to the Beaumont Hospital in Dublin and another to Our Lady's Hospital, Drogheda. The person who was taken to the Beaumont was later brought to the Richmond Hospital intensive care where his condition was described as "critical". The accident occurred at Killybandrick, Redhills, on the road from Cloverhill to Redhills at around 2am. Two of the occupants were 17, one was 19 and the other 20. No other vehicle was involved. Two of the passengers had to be cut from the wreckage. Garda technical experts carried out an examination of the scene and the road was closed for a number of hours.
