Garda warning after two accidents on Cavan bypass today

Gardai in Cavan are urging motorists and road users to be extra vigilant this weekend when they are travelling following two separate accidents on the Cavan by-pass earlier today.

Both collisions took place within a couple of hundred metres of each other shortly after midday. No one was seriously injured in either accident.
The first accident occurred close to Annagelliff and involved a car and a van. The car was travelling from the Dublin Road roundabout towards Belturbet.
The driver indicated to turn right when he was hit from behind by a van and pushed across the road in front of another car. The ambulance was called and the driver of the van was taken to Cavan General Hospital and his injuries were described as “not serious”.
The second accident happened just a couple of 100 metres from the first incident as one travelled on to Belturbet and involved two cars. Gardaí are still investigating the matter and are appealing for witnesses. One of the cars ended up in a ditch and again no one was seriously injured.
Superintendent Jimmy Coen said gardaí are conscious of the fact that with the good weather that more people would be travelling to tourist destinations and coastal areas this weekend.
“We would advise all those driving this weekend to do so within the legal speed limit.” Supt. Coen added that there would be an increased garda presence on the road over the weekend. He called on motorists to adhere the the legal driving limits and not to drink and drive.
