Young man stabbed in the neck with bottle in isolated incident

Gardai in Cavan are investigating an incident during the early hours of Sunday morning last in which a young man sustained and injury to his neck, which required a number stitches. There was a disturbance at Main Street close to the Egg Market at around 4am involving a number of people. The injured party just happened to be passing at the time and had nothing to do with it. It is unclear what actually happened at the time and the matter was being thoroughly looked into by the Gardaí. The young man was removed to Cavan General Hospital by ambulance and it is understood he received 30 stitches for his wound but gardaí could not confirm this. The scene was sealed off for a number of hours to enable garda technical experts carry out a forensic examination of the area. With the Fleadh well and truly underway this unsavoury incident is not the best way to invite the thousands of people due to visit the town over the coming days. Gardaí believe it was an isolated incident and stabbings are quite rare in Cavan town. They are appealing for witnesses to come forward and they can contact Cavan Garda Station on 4331300 where all information would be dealt with in the strictest confidence. Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident a young man was attacked on Sunday night in Cavan town was taken to Cavan General Hospital but was released later. A number of youths were taken to Cavan Garda Station in connection with the matter. The matter is also being investigated by the Gardaí.
