Belturbet trespassers caught on CCTV
A 34-year-old Dublin man was sentenced to six-months imprisonment at a sitting of Ballyconnell District Court after he pleaded guilty to failing to appear on bail at the same court on September 14, 2009. Anthony Duff, Flat 4, 78, Aungier Street, Dublin 2, was also given a four months concurrent sentence for entering as a trespasser the curtilage of Fitzpatrick's Gala petrol station, Drumbarlum, Belturbet, on May 22. He was given a further three months concurrent sentence for damaging the rear door of Fitzpatrick's Gala on the occasion. The defendant pleaded guilty to the charges. Superintendent Brian Brunton, prosecuting, said that in the early hours of May 22nd the defendant and another individual, who had already been dealt with by the court, attempted to gain entry to the premises through an emergency door. They were caught on CCTV and were arrested. The cost of the damage to the door was €200. The defendant had 74 previous convictions, stated the Superintendent. Ms. Siobhan MacNiallais, solicitor defending, said that her client had problems in the past. He had three young children and he had no excuse to offer to the court. The defendant was putting his hands up to the offences, she said. Judge Sean MacBride stated that the defendant had a number of previous convictions and a warrant had been issued for him in connection with those offences.
