Legendary broadcaster pitches welcome for Cavan Day

Born in The Bronx to Vincent Aloysius and Bridget (nee Freehill), an Irish immigrant originally from Ballyconnell, Vin grew up in the Washington Heights section of Manhattan.

Legendary sports broadcaster Vin Scully has pitched in with his welcome for the upcoming Cavan Day, Saturday, September 26.

The now retired sportscaster is best known for his 67 seasons calling games for Major League Baseball's Los Angeles Dodgers, beginning in 1950 (when the franchise was located in Brooklyn) and ending in 2016.

Born in The Bronx to Vincent Aloysius and Bridget (nee Freehill), an Irish immigrant originally from Ballyconnell, Vin grew up in the Washington Heights section of Manhattan.

It was while in Ireland at a young age and after his father had died that it’s claimed Vin garnered his now-legendary speaking abilities after kissing the Blarney Stone.

The National Sportscaster of the Year three times (1965, 1978, 1982), has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a Dodger press box named after him, and a decision by LA City Council was made to change the Dodger Stadium address to ‘Vin Scully Ave’. He even had a ‘Vin Scully Day’ (July 8, 2016).
