Paul Brady has been named as the new Longford performance coach.

Cavan flavour to new Longford football set up

Two former Cavan footballers have been recruited as members of the Longford coaching team.

Laois man Billy O'Loughlin is the surprise new Longford senior football manager. The former Arles-Killeen and St Loman’s player was appointed manager of the Farrell last night.

His backroom team includes former Anglo-Celt columnist Michael Hannon as coach and Mullahoran's Paul Brady serving as performance coach.

Both Hannon and Brady are former Cavan intercounty footballers. Hannon provided superb tactical analysis in the course of his popular football column for this publication. Handball legend Brady continues to win tournaments, having claimed the prestigious Golden Gloves tournament last month and is set to compete in the US Nationals in Nashville, Tennessee.

Much of O'Loughlin's previous experience has been with university teams, but most notably he led the Laois Under-20 team to a Leinster final in 2019.

Billy O'Loughlin said he, "intends to bring a fresh and dynamic approach to the intercounty set up and that he is looking forward to building on the existing talent and working with emerging new prospects within the county."

The rest of the backroom team are Mayo's Aidan Kilcoyne (goalkeeping coach), Tyrone's Daniel Doherty (strength and conditioning coach), Dublin's Ryan McKittrick (analysis), and Ian Mulligan (stats).
