Championship heats up as SFC semi draw confirmed

GAA news

The draw for the semi-finals of the Kiernan’s Service Stations SFC has thrown up two potential crackers as what had been a disappointing championship belatedly comes to the boil.

Kingscourt Stars and Crosserlough are both safely through to the last four and will meet the winners of the Ramor v Laragh and Killygarry v Gowna replays respectively.

Should Gowna emerge, it would be a mouthwatering clash between the champions and the favourites which produced a superb game at the same stage last year. However, that is not to dismiss Killygarry for one second; last year’s finalists played some outstanding football on Saturday evening and will be fancied by many to see off Gowna in the replay.

Laragh United got off to a brilliant start against Ramor on Friday but got reeled in and another close one is expected when they meet again next weekend.

Elsewhere, the Stars got the better of 11-man Cavan Gaels while Crosserlough had 19 points to spare against neighbours Ballinagh.

In the relegation play-offs at senior level, Lavey and Lacken drew while Castlerahan came from seven down at half-time to defeat Mullahoran.

In the Intermediate, Belturbet and Drumgoon will meet in the relegation final. The loser will return to junior ranks for the first time in over two decades.
