Storm causes power outages

The high winds on Monday night and into the early hours of the morning caused power outages in a number of areas, in particular the Ballyconnell area.

At 1.30pm on yesterday (Tuesday) there were still 79 customers affected and the ESB said they were working to repair a fault and would restore power as soon as possible.
There were also outages in Longford, Boyle and Carrick-on-Shannon.

Storm Deirdre

Incidents of flooding during Storm Deirdre were reported in some areas of the county over the weekend, with units of the local fire brigade called to assist.
It followed gusts of up to 100km/h forecast for the country over Saturday into Sunday.
A ‘Status Yellow’ wind warning was issued, which continued into Monday and Tuesday where counties Cavan and Monaghan were also put on alert.
A spokesperson for the local authority confirmed to The Anglo-Celt this week the extent of the damage caused.
“There were a number of incidents of flooding during Storm Deirdre. Municipal District Crews responded to flooding caused by leaves blocking a gully at Sallaghan, and units from Cavan and Killeshandra Fire Brigades responded to floods on the Killeshandra to Crossdoney Road, and on the Ballinagh to Arvagh Road.
“The Cavan Fire Brigade also responded to a fallen tree in Cavan Town.”
The spokesperson added that units of the local fire brigade were also called out to a domestic fire incident in Cavan, but this was a chimney fire, and “unrelated” to the stormy weather conditions.
