Joe Keenan and Jane McCormick with daughter Jessie and son Finn.

This weekend, you can witness a brand new life in the arts in Cavan.

Breath opens at the Bluewall Gallery on Saturday (February 27), from 3pm-5pm. As the inaugural exhibition, it "literally marks our first breath" as director of the gallery Joe Keenan puts it.

The exhibition will include sculpture by Eileen McDonagh, painting by Gabhann Dunne, ceramics by Alison Kay, photography and film by Michael Fortune, print by Marianne Keating and performance by Brian Connolly.

Bluewall Gallery is a privately owned new space for contemporary visual art located 10km from Cavan town, roughly halfway between the Farnham Estate Radisson Hotel and Killykeen Forest Park. The gallery is run by Joe and situated in a converted artist's studio which, up until recently was used by his wife Jane McCormick. It is set in landscaped gardens with spectacular views of Lough Oughter and comprises three exhibition spaces and an outdoor sculpture garden.

The gallery's programme presents a broad range of high quality contemporary art practice from emerging and established artists working in all media.

"We aim to maintain a platform for new work of excellence on both sides of the border and to create an audience for contemporary art in the North-East by producing a programme which is stimulating, challenging and accessible," says director Joe. "This exhibition presents an exiting range of work by six renowned and distinctive Irish artists, whose work reflects the quality and range of practice we are keen to represent at Bluewall."

The exhibition runs until March 24, 2010. The gallery is wheelchair accessible. Admission is free and all are welcome. Opening times are Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 5pm and Sunday 2pm to 5pm (October to March) and Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 6pm and Sunday 2pm to 6pm (April to September).
