Cootehill man was besotted with former partner

A 34-year-old Cavan man who was besotted with his former partner was remanded on continuing bail to appear at Cavan District Court this Friday when he appeared before a sitting last Friday on three counts of breaching a safety order. Paul Crudden, Corsnasaus, Mountain Lodge, Cootehill, was charged with breaching safety order at Drumhilla, Drung, on June 26, July 10 and 30. The defendant had been remanded in custody for a week prior to last Friday's sitting. Judge William Hamill said if he granted the defendant bail he would have to adhere to the conditions as he had not done before. Inspector Seamus Boyle said they had serious concerns for the victim and he pointed out that the defendant had lodged bail money before and did not adhere to the conditions. Ms Mimnagh said if he moved into his parents it would be about eight miles from the victim. While he was in prison the defendant did receive medical attention and advice. "I was in love with that woman and I found it hard when we broke up," he stated. He was seeing a doctor in Virginia and he found that good. Drink also played a role in the matter. He would get help for it and attend AA. The defendant wanted to move on from this and wanted to get away from the woman, her parents and family. "I will stay away from them and have no contact or discussions with them." He was willing to obey a curfew, sign on and only use his mobile phone for his business. Inspector Boyle told the court that they felt if the defendant got out he could do serious harm. Judge Hamill said the defendant could not stay in prison forever. If he went on a residential course for his drinking it could help. Ms Mimnagh pointed out that the defendant had not been in contact with the victim for a while but he admitted he did contact a brother-in-law of her's in the early hours of the morning when he had drink taken. He contacted him as he had heard his former partner had a new boyfriend. The defendant and his former partner had a child and he wanted to know if everything was alright with the child. "I want your client to take steps to deal with his drinking problem if I grant him bail," said Judge Hamill. He granted bail with strict conditions.
