FG leader rallies the troops

Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny was in a purposeful mood when he visited Cavan/Monaghan last Thursday and exhorted the party faithful to canvass every voter to ensure victory on June 5. 'If a vote is worth getting it"s worth asking for,' he stressed.

'Dick Spring lost his seat by four votes and Dan Neville won his seat by one,' he told Cavan FG candidates and supporters in the Farnham Hotel.

Mr. Kenny was cautious mood as he addressed party members, who were buoyant. Acknowledging that the party had now reached new levels as every opinion poll since last autumn put them ahead of Fianna Fáil, he warned them not to count their chickens.

While accepting that the June 5 poll was not a general election, he said it would send a message to the government that they had lost the mandate to govern and should resign.
