Literary beer mats

A series of literary beer mats have been designed by the Cavan-Meath LitLab writers' group, who meet in Bailieborough Library. The mats, which have been distributed to pubs and restaurants in association with the 2010 Fleadh Cheoil Na hÉireann in Cavan, are sponsored by the Cavan Arts Office, the Arts Council of Ireland and Fleadh Cheoil Na hÉireann. There are ten sets with three-line verses or Haiku. The LitLab will present lunchtime readings, on the theme of Journeys, in The Book House, Bullock Lane, Cavan, at 12.30pm this Saturday and Sunday, August 21 and 22, in association with the fleadh.

Face-painting at Aviva

The Aviva branch on Farnham Street in Cavan is celebrating the Fleadh Cheoil with free face painting in the premises this Friday, August 20.

Anyone can call in from 12pm to 4pm and get into the party atmosphere by having their faces painted free of charge.

Barbara Allen, who is the branch manager at Aviva, is looking forward to the wonderful music and the buzz that will be in Cavan town. "Everyone here is really excited about the Fleadh Cheoil coming to town," she said. "We wanted to mark this important occasion for the area and we thought providing face painting for locals and our visitors was an ideal way to add to the atmosphere that will be in Cavan next week. Our branch has such a central location that we hope lots of Irish music fans will take the opportunity to get painted!"
