More must be done to tackle stigma of mental illness

Tackling the taboo surrounding mental illness so people will not be reluctant to access mental health services earlier is an important prerequisite in the task of preventing self harm it was explained at the October meeting of Cavan County Council. Padraig O'Byrne, director of nursing for Cavan/Monaghan Mental Health Services, urged public representatives to play their role in helping to break down barriers that still exist with regard to mental illness.
