Mixed result for government in referendums

Two referendums were held in conjunction with the presidential election and the results in Cavan/Monaghan roughly mirrored the national picture.
The referendum seeking to give the Oireachtas greater powers of investigation into matters that are deemed by them to be of general public importance was the most contentious provoking public opposition from six former Attorneys General in the lead up to polling day.
