The single closure of just one rural Garda station in Co Cavan as announced by the government this week is less of a bitter pill to swallow than was feared. While Tullyvin Garda Station was officially closed on Monday, there has been no garda assigned to it for four years now, writes Tom Carron.

However, it's feared that another round of closures in the next Budget could impact on rural stations in Cavan such as Killeshandra, Bawnboy, Dowra, Stradone and Redhills.
