Recession drives up calls to Samaritans

Over a quarter of a million callers engaged in dialogue with the Samaritans in the past year, which represents a nine per cent increase over the previous year. While difficulties associated with the recession were a big factor in generating the increased calls, the Samaritans also believe that the reduction in the stigma around mental health and suicide were also reasons for the upsurge in the number of people willing to seek help from the charity.
