The Cavan army barracks premises is being earmarked for a major educational development, The Anglo-Celt can reveal. Dún Uí Néill barracks is due to close on March 31 when some 120 personnel there will be relocated and at least two expressions of interest have been lodged with the Department of Defence and the Office of Public Works (OPW) in respect of the vacated property.

Cavan Vocational Education Committee (VEC) has formally expressed an interest in the facility to be used by Cavan Institute and also for the delivery of some adult education courses; while a major international language school is also interested in the property.
