Garda in hunt for sinister armed man after robbery left service station staff shaken

Gardaí are hunting for an armed raider who terrified staff at a Cavan Town service station on Wednesday night.

A male entered Rudden’s Londis at Railway Road at around 9.30pm, strolled up to the counter and demanded money from the till. The Anglo-Celt understands that he made off with a small sum of money and staff were left shaken by the incident. He fled the premises on foot.

Superintendent Jimmy Coen, who is heading up the investigation, said that the man threatened staff.

Gardaí at Cavan are investigating the crime and would particularly like to hear from anyone who was in the Farnham Street, College Street, Railway Road and Swellan areas between 9.15pm and 10pm on Wednesday night.

Superintendent Coen said the raider left on foot from the premises, but they are keeping an open mind in relation to whether there was a getaway vehicle involved.
“We are particularly interested in anybody that observed a male – 6 foot in height, thin build, wearing jeans and a scarf. He was also wearing a grey hoody and there was some writing on the hoody. If anybody has information, I would appeal to them to contact Cavan Garda Station,” said Superintendent Coen.
“It was definitely a very sinister incident and the staff were frightened by the actions of this individual, who obviously is a very dangerous person. The Gardai would like to get information from anyone could can provide us with assistance in brining this person to justice,” said Superintendent Coen.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Cavan Garda Station on 049 4368 800.
