Baileiborough Text Alert Scheme's Kevin Carolan erects a sign at the cemetery, following recent thefts.

Cctv for bailieborough cemetery but not church

A priest in Bailieborough says that he will go ahead with CCTV for the cemetery after thefts of pots from gravesides.
Fr Michael Router says the CCTV will only be at the cemetery and not at the church of St Anne’s itself.
The move was reluctantly made after a recent spate of thefts of ceramic pots in Cavan, Meath and Kildare.
Last week, a parish priest in Kilnaleck said he would not install CCTV at his church either after the bizarre theft of hosts and wine from the tabernacle. Fr Micheál Quinn said that even though the “saddening” thefts raised “bigger questions” he would not be putting in cameras and would not be locking the churches doors any time soon.
“The doors are open all day but locking the church would be an extreme measure. We would hate to come to the point of locking the doors during the day... I would resist that as long as possible.”
