St Pat's qualify for Brock Cup final

St Pat’s, Cavan 1-10
St Pat’s, Maghera 1-8

Cavan football has received a timely boost after St Patrick’s College qualified for their second successive Brock Cup (U15 and a half) final with a hard-fought win over a highly-rated St Pat’s, Maghera side in Moy, Co Tyrone.

The Cavan school shaded the first half, with David Wilson blotting out Maghera danger man Conor Glass – who, incredibly, won a Hogan Cup medal this season – and Colin Carragher and sweeper and team captain Killian Leddy impressing at the back.

The holders led by 1-6 to 1-2 at the break, Wilson grabbing the goal, and battled gamely throughout a keenly-contested second half. Crosserlough’s Stephen Smith also landed a fine point from play, with Lacken boy Paul Leddy converting two frees.

With Denn’s Thomas Edward Donohoe top scoring with 0-4 (two frees), Cavan matched Maghera – Dalton champions in 2011 and Corn na nOg finalists last year, and pulled four clear before the Derry side landed two late points.

Maghera pushed hard for a goal but Cavan, coached by Shaun Doherty and Shane Fitzpatrick, were resolute and marched on to the final. The school won the competition last year for the first time.
