One man released in double-murder investigation

One of the two men arrested in connection with the Lough Sheelin double-murder investigation has, this morning, has been released without charge.

Gardaí yesterday released a statement saying two men had been arrested as part of an investigation into the murders of Eoin O’Connor and Anthony Keegan. Both males were arrested in the Cavan Town area yesterday morning, June 11, 2014. 

One male in his late 20s was detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007, at Kells Garda Station. The second male in his early 30s is detained under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939 also at Kells Garda Station. The Anglo-Celt understands both men are foreign nationals.

Gardaí commenced a murder investigation following the discovery of the bodies of 32-year-old Eoin O Connor and 33-year-old Anthony Keegan on an island on Lough Sheelin on May 26. Both men, who are from Dublin, had been reported missing on April 22.
