A record crowd descended on the Cavan Crystal Hotel in Cavan last night for the fourth annual Anglo-Celt Sports Awards.
Almost 300 revellers toasted the nominees and winners of the prestigious awards.
The blue riband Overall Sports Star of the Year went to Bailieborough bricklayer Killian Heery, the top adventure racer in Ireland whose discipline combines running, cycling, kayaking and ascending and descending mountains.
Heery amazed the crowd when he informed MC Damien O’Reilly (RTE) that he can “go up and down Croagh Patrick in 50 minutes”.
Other winners on the night included Niamh McCorry (Young Sports Star), Cavan Gaels (Team of the Year), David Crosby (Outstanding Achievement), Leona Maguire (International Sports Star), Sharon Higgins (PRO of the Year) and Patsy Hand and Greg Sheridan (Hall of Fame, below).
