Farewell to the Melbourne!

After over three decades of service, a business that has been a staple of the Cavan Town streetscape closed its doors leaving a void in the county town. The bustling warmth of the Melbourne Bakery at 95-96 Main St, Cavan, cooled on Saturday when the eaterie close its doors for good.
It was the second such business in that block of properties to shut up shop this month following the closure of Philip Brady Menswear.
Melbourne owner Gerry O’Reilly says economic circumstances forced his hand on continuing in business: “Unfortunately we have been battling with it for a number of years and it just became unsustainable. The size of the business, the size of the premises, the number of staff it took to keep it going - it just wasn’t sustainable,” he told the Celt.
