Contracts signed for new Ballyjamesduff Fire Station

Cavan County Council has signed contracts with Cavan-based firm Sandar Construction Ltd, to construct the new €1.5 million Ballyjamesduff Fire Station. The state-of-the-art, two-bay fire station will include a drill tower, drill yard, parking areas, and will be located at Derrylurgan, Rassan Road, Ballyjamesduff.

Welcoming the news, outgoing Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, Councillor Sarah O’Reilly said: “I am delighted that one of the final official engagements of my term of office is to sign the contract for this most vital public facility for the people of Ballyjamesduff, something that will have a lasting legacy in the community.

“I am particularly glad to see that a local firm has secured the contract, supporting local jobs, while also providing a first-class facility for the brave firefighters of Ballyjamesduff,” the Cathaoirleach added.

Chief Executive of Cavan County Council Tommy Ryan emphasised the importance of the facility: “I am pleased to have reached this important stage in the process of providing of a new station in Ballyjamesduff, which is a key strategic action in our Corporate Plan. This purpose-built new facility will adequately meet the needs of a dynamic, 21st century fire service and completes the extensive modernisation of all 10 stations in the county, following the opening of the new Virginia Fire Station in 2019.”

Chief Fire Officer Noel O’Reilly spoke of the impact the new station will have on the delivery of service: “After a great deal of planning and effort from everyone from our own fire officers to local station officer John Lovett and his crew, with the support of management, our elected members, and the local community, I am delighted that we are now in a position to begin construction of our new station in Ballyjamesduff.

“John and his crew provide a high-quality emergency service to their community at all times, and this fabulous new facility will assist them in continuing to develop their extensive skill set,” CFO O’Reilly concluded.

Construction will commence on-site in summer 2021, with an estimated completion date of late 2022.
