Council welcomes funding for local outdoor projects
There's some good news for local groups today.
Cavan County Council has welcomed news the county is to receive over €212,000 in funding for a number of local outdoor projects.
Under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme, eight local projects are receiving funding.
The most, €43,200, will go towards the drawing up of a masterplan for angling development by Cavan County Council. Other projects include upgrades at Rann Point on Lough Oughter and at the Sean Eamoinn Ruairi Trail on Cuilcagh mountain and the creation of a new heritage trail in Bawnboy.
Funding will also go towards projects in the Cuilcagh Lakelands Geopark, at Garvagh Lough Amenity Area, Kilnahard Slipway on Lough Sheelin and at Lough an Leagh.
It's part of a €6 million allocation announced this morning.

Welcoming the announcement, Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, Councillor John Paul Feeley said, “The allocation of €212,075 in funding to outdoor recreation projects across the county is great news for Cavan. From Lough an Leagh in the east of the county, to the Cuilcagh Lakelands UNESCO Global Geopark in the west, this funding will help Cavan people engage with the outstanding natural beauty we have on our doorstep, boosting health in the community and giving a welcome boost to local tourism”.
“These allocations happen firstly as a result of the huge background work done by Council staff, working with local communities to make compelling and detailed applications.”
