2022 was another big year for Cully’s Bakery.

“Our iced cherry log is now in Aldi stores around the country,” said owner Brían Cully.

“It made it through the Grow With Aldi programme, which sees approximately 500 different companies enter products. This is whittled down to 25 products that are stocked in Aldi in a ‘special buy’ programme. From there, a final five get a one-year contract with Aldi,” he revealed of the competitive process.

The contract is a “huge” opportunity, according to Brían. “It wouldn’t be something that logistically we’d be able to do on our own it’s a dream situation,” he said.

The bakery has taken on extra staff to fill orders and invested in extra machinery. “It’s increased our revenues without a need for a big outlay,” said Brían.

Cully’s is very much a family-run business.

“I’m the third generation of the family to work here, my father Barney still works here and so does my sister Elaine who is the office manager.

It’s not just the Cully family working. We have a husband and wife team who work in the bakery and their daughter used to work here and the head baker has two relations working here as well.”
