The Cavan Burren is among those amenities to benefit from the latest round of funding.

Almost €190K for seven outdoor projects in Cavan

Close to €190,000 has been assigned to upgrade seven outdoor recreation projects in County Cavan with Dún a Rí Forest Park in Kingscourt and the Cavan Burren in west Cavan the biggest winners, benefitting from €30,000 each.

The funding was confirmed by Minister for Rural and Community Development and local TD Heather Humphreys, this morning (Thursday), March 28.

The allocation is part of a €4.1 million investment nationwide under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme.

The projects in Cavan being funded are:

• Dun an Ri Forest Park: Improvement works to the main entrance - €30,000

• Killeshandra Town Lake Amenity Upgrade: Refurbishment works at The Strand, Town Lake - €23,818

• Bike Repair Station Network for County Cavan: To deliver a network of bike repair stations across County Cavan - €28,350

• Cavan Burren Park Upgrade: Upgrade works to Cavan Burren Park - €30,000

• Upgrade works at strategic Cuilcagh Lakelands Geopark sites - €25,843

• The installation of a wheelchair accessible angling stand at Lough Sillan - €26,048

• Installation of boardwalk and signage on Lough an Leagh - €23,068

Announcing the funding, Minister Humphreys said:

“[This] is all about enhancing our natural amenities such as our walkways, mountain trails and forest walks, to our cycleways and rivers.

“I believe the projects receiving funding today will play an important role in attracting more visitors to our rural towns and villages."

Minister Humphreys is urging people with Summer approaching to "get out and explore those hidden gems in your community".

She added: "The clocks are going forward this weekend – a perfect reason to go on that hike or cycle and enjoy the great outdoors.”

The project upgrades are set to be delivered by September 2025. Further announcements of successful projects will be made in the coming weeks.
