‘It has transformed the business’ - Argue Meats
Argue Meats in Cootehill obtained an Energy Efficiency Grant through Cavan LEO covering 75% of the cost of a new state-of-the-art serving counter.
Thomas Argue is a second generation butcher in the historic east Cavan market town, which this year celebrates its Tercentenary.
The business has been a mainstay in Cootehill's business community for more than a fifth of that time, with Thomas taking over from his dad, the late Raymond Argue, in 2000.
He is passionate about the "family business” and serving his community.
His engagement with the LEO began, through consultant John Daly who helped Thomas explore what opportunities are available, especially once a report was carried out.
“It was free as well. It all came from a single phonecall, and that really got the ball rolling. Karl [Kelly] even came out and gave me a hand filling out the forms.”
Thomas could hardly believe when he was informed that the Efficiency Grant, which had covered 50% of eligible costs up to a maximum grant of €5,000, was increased in 2024 to 75% for investment in technologies and equipment.
“All the better,” laughs Thomas, who is not only delighted with his engagement with Cavan LEO and their dedicated team, but also with the outcome for his business too.
“The [old counter] was still working, but it was starting to show its age. The new serve over is great.
It has transformed the business, all glass, and fresh looking. With the grant, and the VAT back as well, it's been a great boost for the business.”
